It is more ridiculous that you need to add a contact for an unknown number just to block them from further sending you texts. Why they do not just simply add the option to block a number upon receiving the first text (that is unknown) boggles my mind. Someone truly wasn't thinking.

  • Blocking SPAM text messagesSo, my iPhone receives a huge amount of SPAM in the form of text messages. My question is this:If I turn on Filter Unknown Senders (Located in Settings > Messages) is it still possible to somehow receive a text from a sender that isn’t in my contact list? Is there a SPAM folder? For example, I may need to receive a factor two text message from a number not on in my contacts. Would I first have to shut off the Filter and then receive the factor two code - or could I somehow retrieve the desired message located in a SPAM folder somewhere?Anyway, I’d like to block every number that isn’t in my contact list to rid myself of receiving several SPAM text messages a day - but, that may not be feasible. Any ideas? Not sure if this matters, but I"m using an iPhone 7 Plus (with the latest iOS). 13102

You can filter out the texts from unknown contacts (names that are not in your contacts). Once you start this, then those texts from unknown senders will appear under a separate tab in the Messages app.

Open Settings ➡️ Messages ➡️ Filter Unknown Senders: Turn this switch to ON.

That setting moves the messages to a separate folder that you don't have to look at.

Other than adding unknowns to a list, there appears to be no benefit to this feature since they continue to pop up in Messages along with all the rest.

If we can’t block messages from ppl not on our contact list, just putting them ( out of sight-out of mind) will just use up precious memory on my cell!

If they are both out of sight and out of mind, that means you're not thinking about them at all. Why would you need to think about things in a folder you never look at?
