It is more ridiculous that you need to add a contact for an unknown number just to block them from further sending you texts. Why they do not just simply add the option to block a number upon receiving the first text (that is unknown) boggles my mind. Someone truly wasn't thinking.

Blocking SPAM text messagesSo, my iPhone receives a huge amount of SPAM in the form of text messages. My question is this:If I turn on Filter Unknown Senders (Located in Settings > Messages) is it still possible to somehow receive a text from a sender that isn’t in my contact list? Is there a SPAM folder? For example, I may need to receive a factor two text message from a number not on in my contacts. Would I first have to shut off the Filter and then receive the factor two code - or could I somehow retrieve the desired message located in a SPAM folder somewhere?Anyway, I’d like to block every number that isn’t in my contact list to rid myself of receiving several SPAM text messages a day - but, that may not be feasible. Any ideas? Not sure if this matters, but I"m using an iPhone 7 Plus (with the latest iOS). 13102
Is there an easier way to block texts from multiple phone numbers? I have received two texts and the "from" is 19 phone numbers. It is total spam trying to get you to click on an imbedded link. I went to each one and blocked the phone number but there should be an easier way! 2781

You can filter out the texts from unknown contacts (names that are not in your contacts). Once you start this, then those texts from unknown senders will appear under a separate tab in the Messages app.
Open Settings ➡️ Messages ➡️ Filter Unknown Senders: Turn this switch to ON.

That setting moves the messages to a separate folder that you don't have to look at.

Other than adding unknowns to a list, there appears to be no benefit to this feature since they continue to pop up in Messages along with all the rest.

If we can’t block messages from ppl not on our contact list, just putting them ( out of sight-out of mind) will just use up precious memory on my cell!

If they are both out of sight and out of mind, that means you're not thinking about them at all. Why would you need to think about things in a folder you never look at?
If you are getting a lot of unwanted calls and messages and the numbers keep changing, you might want to filter out any unknown numbers. Open the Phone app and tap the three vertical dots on the top right, then Settings, Blocked numbers, and toggle on Unknown (or Block unknown callers on a Samsung phone).
With iMessage, you can prevent unknown senders from texting you directly. Their messages are filtered to another folder, and you don't get notified about them. Go to Settings > Messages.Scroll down to Message Filtering, then turn on Filter Unknown Senders.
Scroll down until you find the “Filter Unknown Senders.”
Turn it on by swiping the button to the right. All messages from a number not in your contact list will be filtered to the “Unknown Senders” tab found under “Filters.”
Manage “Only receive calls & texts from your phone contacts”
Under “Phone Settings,” tap Privacy & security. Under “Spam and contact settings,” tap Manage contact settings. Turn Only receive calls and texts from your phone contacts on or off. If you don't have contact syncing on, we ask you to turn it on.
You can create filters to automatically divert messages from certain senders or containing specific keywords to a separate folder or delete them altogether. This way, you can effectively manage unwanted texts without blocking the sender.
Go to Settings > Phone, then tap any of the following:Silence Unknown Callers: You get notifications for calls from people in your contacts, recent outgoing calls, and Siri Suggestions.
Allow or block calls and messages from specific contacts
Go to Settings > Screen Time. Tap Communication Limits, tap During Screen Time, then select one of the following for communication at all times (other than during downtime): Contacts Only: To allow communication only with your contacts.
Unfortunately, you can't outright block unknown and private numbers in the same way you can block known contacts. You can, however, filter and separate them from the people you know. This will create a new "Unknown Senders" tab in your Messages app, and you won't get notifications for these.
